Challenges in teaching RF circuit design

Published: 26 February 2010 Publication History

Abstract

Wireless access has become an integral and vital component of our modern life. We are witnessing a wireless revolution in terms of the number and type of wireless applications. Wireless technology has made tremendous advancements in the last decade, as is obvious when one looks at the cellular generation advancements from 1G to the 4G. At the heart of all these innovations and growth are the Radio Frequency (RF) standards and technologies that are converging to deliver a whole host of new functionality and capabilities. There is a huge demand for industry-ready RF engineering graduates. Mumbai University has introduced a course on RF Circuit Design for Electronics and Telecommunications senior undergraduate students. This paper describes the challenges in teaching the course in terms of the explication of RF theories and circuit design so as to help the students internalize engineering concepts and build sound domain knowledge.
