ABSTRACT

ALFORM (A Language For Record Maintenance) is a unique higher-level language designed to ease the development tasks in writing programs that utilize sequential record files.

The main features of this language are directed towards the creation and maintenance of sequential record files. Data information is stored in a two dimensional array (record #'s, record information). The data stored on the files is character stream oriented. This language will not support the extensive use of mathematical operations, and arithmetic operations assume the programmer has converted the data characters to floating point. The data can be added, subtracted, multiplied, or divided.

I/O will consist of: reading record information from a file or transaction cards, writing records to a file, or writing generated reports to a printer.

A SORT verb will be provided to facilitate the construction of new records and ordered reports.
