Queue-balancing resource allocation for rate-stable OFDMA systems

Published: 28 June 2010 Publication History

Abstract

This paper deals with resource allocation issues for OFDMA systems, which is an active research topic both in academia and industry, in the light of emerging and future multicarrier cellular systems, such as LTE and WiMAX. In this paper, we study the stability of the OFDMA systems, where the same traffic is offered during each time slot. Earlier work dealing with this problem show that the "Water-filling" technique ignores variable state, as: queue lengths, delay, and even long-run throughput. In fact, the above mentioned states are vital to guarantee rate stability and/or to minimize average delay. However, ensuring only fairness between users'occupancies queues can lead to a buffer overflow of the system. We propose in this paper a resource allocation algorithm based on queue-balancing and assuring stability of the system. We proof that this algorithm offers stability to the system and we establish a threshold rate of arrival traffic. The theoretical results are in perfect agreement with the simulation results.
