Creating portable agents for coupling power transmission models

Published: 11 April 2010 Publication History

Abstract

Critical concerns on both the national and international levels are energy production, supply, and demand. Understanding cascading power failures and power transmission networks are two particular areas of special interest to the power systems modeling research community. In this paper we discuss the coupling of a probabilistic C++ model of cascading failures and a dynamic power transmission C++ model using utility agents. The REPAST and SWIG software is used to host the utility agent source code as well as allowing for dynamically altering agent function parameters during model execution, visualizing model status and output data in real time, and enabling agent interchangeability with existing agent libraries.
