Applied sciences in biomedical and ICT from the perspective of the patient's right to data privacy and security: turning a zero-sum into a positive-sum game

Published: 26 October 2011 Publication History

Abstract

New ICT technology and solutions are offering amazing possibilities of new services and products allowing greater interaction with other functionalities and the e- environment. Applied sciences in biomedical are taking significant benefits of these new opportunities in terms of enhancement of existing services and launch of new serices. However, use of ITC technology raises concerns from a data privacy and security perspective. The dichotomy between advantages of ICT and privacy protection of patients may be overcome by technical solutions designed according to the Privacy-by-Design principle.
