Design and measurement results of an UHF RFID localization system

Published: 26 October 2011 Publication History

Abstract

In this paper, a new RFID localization system with passive UHF RFID-tags is presented. It is based on angle of arrival (AoA) measurements by means of a phased array antenna with electronic beam steering mechanism. This approach has been successfully applied within a UHF RFID system and it allows the precise determination of the angle and the position of small passive RFID tags. The paper explains the basic principle, the experimental setup with the phased array and shows results of angle measurements and position measurements.
