Abstract

Domain-Specific Modeling (DSM) is a solution that bridges both issues of productivity, and scalability, for software systems. This workshop, now in its 12th incarnation, is an important venue because it actively involves experts in the field, with those who want to learn more about the topic.

While other venues provide a place to discuss completed work, it is still important to have a place where still brewing ideas can be presented, and new collaborations can be forged through informal discussions and brainstorming. This is an important role of the DSM workshop series, and this year's program provides another opportunity not just to hear what other people have done, but to work on new ideas, and flesh out relevant problems for future work.

Further goals of the workshop are to discuss the impact of existing research, to demonstrate new applications that require the advancement of DSM technology, and to introduce architects and users unfamiliar with DSM to the power of domain-specific approaches.

This workshop is known for keeping the work in workshop, and a significant amount of time was devoted to group work and discussion.

There were 18 submissions from 11 countries, from which 12 papers were accepted for presentation in the workshop.

Towards xMOF: executable DSMLs based on fUML

When defining a domain-specific modeling language (DSML), the two key components that have to be specified are its syntax and semantics. For specifying a modeling language's abstract syntax, metamodels are the standard means. MOF provides a standardized,...

Proactive modeling: auto-generating models from their semantics and constraints

This paper discusses how DSML semantics and constraints enable proactive modeling---a form of model intelligence that foresees model transformations, automatically executes them, and prompts the modeler for assistance when necessary. This paper also ...

The RPG DSL: a case study of language engineering using MDD for generating RPG games for mobile phones

It is typical in the domain of digital games to have many development problems due to its increasing complexity. Those difficulties include: i)little code reuse in order to develop a cross-platform game; and ii)performing game's verification through ...

Domain specific modeling for operations research simulation in a large industrial context

In order to conduct operations research studies on complex systems, CEA/CESTA has been using and developing a new generation of simulator. The inherent complexity of such simulations ensues from the large spectrum of physical phenomena involved. As a ...

The United States of a meta-model build with MyDraft: an agile model-driven cloud-based platform for data-oriented rich web applications

This is the true story of the unification of the various states of an executable meta-model living in a nascent cloud-based environment. Tracing his adventures will uncover short iterations where design time and runtime activities are collapsed in a ...

EA anamnesis: towards an approach for enterprise architecture rationalization

ArchiMate is a Domain Specific Language (DSL) to model an enterprise from a holistic perspective, showing not only the IT infrastructure of an organization, but also how this IT infrastructure supports business processes and contributes to the ...

UML4COP: UML-based DSML for context-aware systems

Context-awareness plays an important role in developing flexible and adaptive systems. However, it is not easy to design and implement such a context-aware system, because its system configuration can be dynamically changed. This paper proposes UML4COP, ...

DSMLs for enterprise architecture management: review of selected approaches

Enterprise architecture management (EAM) aims at structuring an enterprise by providing purposeful abstractions of both IT and the surrounding action systems and thereby takes into account the relevant business context. For this purpose, it offers ...

Heterogeneous multi-core systems: UML profiles vs. DSM approaches

This paper examines tradeoffs in extending a UML profile, or developing a new DSML for a particular domain. Questions are presented which help to make an objective decision. A case study is presented to address system design in heterogeneous multi-core ...

Design considerations for a cyber-physical testing language on the example of autonomous driving

Cyber-physical systems are nowadays used as the term for systems which perceive data from their surroundings for algorithmic processing and enrichment by digital information to generate interactions in their specific context. In recent days, a prominent ...

ESEML: empirical software engineering modeling language

New processes, patterns, structures, tools, languages, and practices are being proposed for software development, but technology transfer is hard to achieve. One of the objectives of empirical studies is easing technology transfer from academy to ...
