The experiences and challenges in setting up a mobile computing track

Published: 14 October 2014 Publication History

Abstract

The world of web development has been impacted by the mobile computing, particularly the wide use of smart phones. The rising trend in mobile computing has motivated us to develop a new senior technical track (Bachelor of Science) on Mobile and Web. This panel will discuss the various aspects of setting up new mobile computing courses to be added to the curriculum. IT and other computing faculty must create and deliver these new and exciting mobile computing courses -- all while teaching their regular courses. Difficulties arise with not having the correct technology platforms for the students to use, faculty not knowing all of the elements of these new mobile computing courses themselves, and the time element for faculty to create new courses with their heavy workloads. The panelists will discuss the various aspects of creating a new mobile computing 'track' for the BSIT program at SPSU. Each panelist will discuss various aspects of the track and how SPSU went about creating the track and how it will be rolled out. After each panelist speaks, the floor will be open for discussion and sharing between all attendees.
