Text for a Ride, in Uganda

Abstract

Cellular phones have been enabling people to connect everywhere. Through social networks or applications that provide important services, people in communities around the world have been using cellular phones to solve important problems. Considering this ubiquitous availability of cellular phones, we have developed an SMS-based system to connect boda-boda drivers with people that need transportation in remote rural areas in Uganda. Our system is being tested in the field and will be used in the near future by Wakabi, a local social enterprise.
