I Can Help You: Altruistic Behaviors from Children towards a Robot at a Kindergarten

Published: 06 March 2017 Publication History

Abstract

When a robot fails a task and cannot recover by itself, altruistic behavior from a human partner is important. We investigated the design that the robot induces altruistic behavior from people. We carried out the field study in the kindergarten and observed the scene children helped the robot. The result suggests that robot should have the abilities of conveying its intention, representing liveness and expressing its emotion to induce altruistic behavior from people. The result also reveals that the social constraint and the recognition of the robot are related to altruistic behavior.
