Model-based analysis of driver distraction by infotainment systems in automotive domain

ABSTRACT

Nowadays cars are equipped with technologies that are getting more and more sophisticated. Due to this increase of such technologies, driver distractions have incredibly grown and they are more and more studied. In cognitive science, numerous studies show how, when a user interacts with two concurrent tasks, the cognitive load of one of them may influence negatively the interaction with the others.

In this paper we consider infotainment system in the context of both human computer interaction and cognitive science, to study how an increase in the cognitive load of the infotainment systems may lead to a lack of attention to the driving task and may lead to fatal consequences. We propose a cognitive model in rewriting logic which will be used to model a case study of a user simultaneously using an infotainment system and driving.
