Evaluation of ACI Training on User Preparedness

Published: 22 July 2018 Publication History

Abstract

In this paper, we present the results of two studies. In an initial evaluation of a summer workshop series, the goal was to determine the impact of the workshops on user preparedness to use high-performance computing. A new questionnaire was created, and help tickets and utilization of computing resources were analyzed. New users were compared with advanced users, relative to jobs run and tickets submitted after the workshops. The second study focused on new users who attended introductory workshops, their utilization of resources, and on further automating the evaluation. Results showed that a perception of preparedness was validated by examining resource utilization, and that tracking users objectively can be automated to help facilitators make informed statements about attendee population, the impact of training, the best times to offer training, and the differences between new and advanced users.
