Abstract

Welcome from the Program Chairs of the 9th ACM Conference on Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, and Health Informatics (ACM-BCB). The ACM-BCB 2018 conference received 148 paper submissions, 20 highlight submissions, 6 tutorial submissions, 9 workshop submissions, and 54 poster submissions.

The 148 paper submissions covered diverse areas in bioinformatics and health informatics, such as cancer genomics, genome assembly, and storing and processing healthcare data. The program committee members diligently reviewed all paper submissions, and thus, evaluated them based on relevance, novelty, and technical rigor. In light of these reviews, and the discussion of the program committee, we accepted 46 submissions as long papers and 14 submissions as short papers. Out of 20 highlight submissions, 11 submissions were accepted for oral presentation. In addition, 6 workshops were accepted out of the 7 submissions, and 2 tutorials were accepted for inclusion of the program out of the 6 submissions.

The accepted papers and highlight submissions were scheduled in three parallel sessions, spanning the three days of the conference, while accepted tutorials and accepted workshops were scheduled on the first day of the conference.

The authorship of papers, workshops, and tutorials submitted to ACM BCB 2018 was diverse, representing 27 different countries. The program committee members also reflected this diversity, as well as that of ACM SIGBIO.
