stLD: towards a spatio-temporal link discovery framework

Published: 05 July 2019 Publication History

Abstract

In this paper, we present the design and implementation of a link discovery (LD) framework targeting spatial and spatio-temporal data. Existing works are either very specific (focusing on limited spatial LD tasks), or even though being generic LD frameworks, they do not support spatial nor spatio-temporal relations. Motivated by such limitations, we introduce a generic framework for spatial and spatio-temporal LD. Our framework supports all combinations of spatial relations and exploits blocking techniques to achieve high performance. Innovative features of our framework include the ability to operate on streaming data sources, supporting both 2D and 3D geometries, as well as supporting proximity-based LD tasks. We demonstrate the value of our framework by means of experiments on real-world data, both from the maritime and the aviation domains.
