The Data Mining of Strong Earthquakes' Occurring Time based on the Traditional Chinese Calendar

Published: 12 April 2019 Publication History

Abstract

This paper did the systemic data mining of the earthquakes' occurring time information under the traditional Chinese calendar for the first time. The China seismic catalogues (M5-M7) of 1965-2016 and the Northern Hemisphere seismic catalogues (M6-M8) of 1973-2016 under the Gregorian calendar were converted to the ones under the traditional Chinese calendar. The statistics result shows that the seismic frequency in spring is clearly higher than that in summer and the seismic frequency in autumn is higher than that in winter in China and the Northern Hemisphere. At the same time, the seismic frequency near the time of spring-neap tide (the new moon, the first quarter moon, the full moon and the last quarter moon) is clearly about 30% or more higher than that in other days. The 2004 Indonesian tsunami, the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake, the 2011 Tokyo earthquake et al. followed the above rules. These rules can guide people's production and life.
