ABSTRACT
This paper discusses several challenges of working with scientists to adapt a water simulation interface, originally built to present technical information to experts, to new audiences that include rural populations of museum visitors. It introduces the concept of "mindfulness" as the goal that UX designers and scientists should strive for when designing experiences for users to interact with scientific knowledge. It also makes recommendations to UX designers and researchers for how they can cultivate a more transactional relationship with scientists toward the goal of making scientific content more accessible.
