Discourse Analysis on the Engagement System of Business Information News under One Belt and One Road Construction

ABSTRACT

By using engagement system of evaluation theory as the theoretical framework, business information news in the Xinhua News Agency and China Daily under One Belt and One Road construction is analyzed, and its interpersonal meaning of engagement resources is also studied. Studies show that five parts of engagement strategies --- starter, elaboration, explanation, background and commentary---have their own characteristics. By the influence of English linguistic structure and register features of business information news under One Belt and One Road, the engagement strategies of different parts of the corpus contain each other to construct a unique prosody discourse pattern and to create a space for dialogue featuring equal consultation, harmony and inclusiveness for the heralded spread One Belt and One Road initiative. It is conducive to realizing the goal of "five connections" under the One Belt and One Road initiative.
