Examining the Antecedents of Customer Adoption and Intention to Use Mobile Wallet: An Empirical Investigation

Published: 03 May 2020 Publication History

Abstract

Virtual payment services such as mobile wallet is reshaping the payment landscape. However, mobile wallet has yet to reach high-scale adoption in Malaysia despite its large potential. Little is known about the setback. This study aims to examine B40 and M40 groups' readiness and their perceptions toward mobile wallet by incorporating Technology Readiness Index (TRI 2.0) and extended Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT2). Data collection was carried out in five major cities in Malaysia. A total number of 324 respondents have joined the data collection. Partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) was utilized to analyze the data. The respondents were found to have optimism traits and exhibit positive feelings toward mobile wallet. The findings revealed that performance expectancy, facilitating conditions, and price value are the strongest predictors of behavioral intention to adopt mobile wallet.
