Development and Validation of Next Generation Blended Learning Environment Questionnaire for Senior High School Students

Abstract

In the past years, the use of Learning Management Systems (LMSs) has been regarded as an advantageous means for handling administrative duties in classroom instructions rather than being successful in facilitating learning. Although several studies have reported that the utilization of certain LMSs have resulted to positive effects on students' achievement and perceptions, the LMS's capabilities and limitations make it limited for teachers to develop new pedagogical approaches in maximizing its use in promoting effective and efficient teaching-learning processes. This study aimed to develop and validate a scale for evaluating a digital environment when using LMSs in supporting learning directly. The developed Next Generation Blended Learning Environment Questionnaire (NxGBLEQ) is a four-point Likert scale and originally had 52 questions. For further validation, 4 Science Education experts validated the questionnaire, and it was administered to 326 senior high school students. Consistent with the adopted theoretical framework, the 35-item NxGBLEQ comprised 5 factors: (1) interoperability and integration; (2) personalization; (3) analytics, advising, and learning assessment; (4) collaboration, and (5) accessibility and universal design. The entire scale and factors demonstrated a satisfactory level of internal reliability, and senior high school students could use it.
