ABSTRACT
DAVIGO is an asymmetrical VR and PC multiplayer game, where VR and PC players interact within the same virtual space, one as a giant and the other as a little warrior. This form of gameplay created novel challenges for our design process to effectively balance the game. These challenges included balancing player speeds across the two scales and ensuring mechanics such as throwing felt natural. Respectively, we solved these challenges by reducing the giant's speed in relation to the VR player's movement and implementing novel throwing mechanics such as physically stimulating joints and adding aim assist features.

Feels like Team Spirit: Biometric and Strategic Interdependence in Asymmetric Multiplayer VR Games
CHI '21: Proceedings of the 2021 CHI Conference on Human Factors in Computing SystemsVirtual reality (VR) multiplayer games increasingly use asymmetry (e.g., differences in a person’s capability or the user interface) and resulting interdependence between players to create engagement even when one player has no access to a head-mounted ...
Player Experience in a VR and Non-VR Multiplayer Game
VRIC '18: Proceedings of the Virtual Reality International Conference - Laval VirtualSeveral studies compared the player experience of Virtual Reality (VR) games and non-VR games. However, there is a lack of research on the specific subject of VR and non-VR multiplayer games. Therefore, this work explores how implementing a multiplayer ...
Understanding Enjoyment in VR Games with GameFlow
VRST '19: Proceedings of the 25th ACM Symposium on Virtual Reality Software and TechnologyIn this paper, we report on a work in progress project that aims to understand affordances and inhibiters of enjoyment in virtual reality (VR) video games. We apply the GameFlow model to review and analyse VR and non-VR versions of the same games to ...
