ABSTRACT

The present work aims to provide an implemented program using LabVIEW ™ software for the recognition of tubular atrophy in renal biopsy images.

The procedure for the assessment of the kidney transplantability involves the visual analysis of one or more samples of renal tissue taken by percutaneous renal biopsy techniques. The sample is subsequently treated with histomorphological or histochemical staining techniques and subsequently analyzed by optical microscopy. The images obtained were elaborated to highlight the atrophic and physiological tubules and inflammatory cells often involved in cases of tubulointerstitial nephritis (TIN).

The aim is to facilitate the task of the pathologist by providing information on the functional score to reduce observation and diagnosis times and consequently speed up renal transplant operations.
