Connecting LoRaWANs Deep Inside a Building

ABSTRACT

LoRaWAN has emerged as a promising communication paradigm to connect Internet-of-Things over wide areas. However, LoRaWANs suffer dramatic performance degradation when deployed inside a building, due to fast attenuation of signal strength. We explore to combine the signals received by multiple gateways to boost the communication quality over weak connections. In this poster, we address the core problem of how to synchronize frequency and phase among distributed receivers. We present a synchronization method to estimate frequency and phase offsets from the signals transmitted by COTS LoRa nodes. The method is light-weight and can achieve precise synchronization among distributed gateways.
