Design of Visual Inspection System for Inner Surface of Small-diameter Workpiece

Published: 01 February 2021 Publication History

Abstract

In order to realize visual inspection of inner surface of the small-diameter workpiece, it's necessary to design a visual inspection system to obtain high precision panoramic images. In this paper, a visual inspection system for small-diameter workpiece is built with mechanical motion platform, imaging and processing system and a 45° reflector. The reflector has a 45° tilted mirror at the bottom, and is used to import external light on the inner wall, meanwhile, to export the image of the inner wall. Experiments are carried out on a calibrated workpiece by scanning the inner wall and obtaining its images. A series of clear rectangular areas are segmented from the images, and stitched into a complete panoramic image of the inner wall by digital image processing. Finally, on the panoramic image, the center distances of the two vertical holes and the two horizontal holes are measured respectively, whose nominal values are both 0.25 mm. The measured standard deviations are both less than 0.003 mm. Experimental results show that this system can achieve high precision detection of inner surface of the small-diameter workpiece.
