On behalf of the organizing committee, I am excited to welcome everyone to the 26th International Conference on Architectural Support for Programming Languages and Operating Systems (ASPLOS 2021) which is being held completely online this year. It goes without saying that this is a difficult time for many around the globe, and yet the impact of computing on people’s lives has never been more clear. Even though computer system design now has many decades of work to stand upon, new capabilities afforded by emerging technologies, creative new applications of computing in our lives, deployments of computing at completely unprecedented scales, and our growing understanding of computing’s interaction with society all beg us to challenge our assumptions and reconsider what is possible.
