The Effectiveness of Mathematics-English (Mating) Learning Model to Increase the Mathematics Problem Solving Competence and Mathematics-English

Published: 25 April 2021 Publication History

Abstract

A mating learning model (Mathematics-English) is a model development of realistic Mathematics Education (RME) learning model. The learning step uses RME learning step and the process of problem solving uses Polya theory. The reasearch method is pre-experimental (one group pretest and posttest design). It conducts in twice of the first experiment in the grup a and in the second experiment in the group b. The pre experiment research has done twice to find out the effectiveness of learning model "mating" to increase the Mathematics problem solving and English-Mathematics competence. The output of this research is a mathematics-English textbook that integrates mathematics and English learning in Bahasa and English (bilingual). This model conducted in public Elementary school number 12 Entikong. This research is a qualitative descriptive type. It used observation and interview technique in the collect of data. The data analysis used descriptive technique. This research has conducted in 2 months (January and February 2020). It run in two groups, they were group a and group b of the third grade students. The first action (toward group a) showed that the using "understanding and carrying" of the Polys theory. Meanwhile, in the second action (toward group b) has increased that the students used three steps of problem solving by Polya theory (understanding, planning, carrying). The application of mating learning can be seen in the effectiveness standard, is 1,389 with high category. So that, the mating learning model is effective to increase the problem solving in mathematics and mathematics-English learning.
