A Systematic Literature Review: First Language Acquisition for Children in Linguistics Perspective

Published: 25 April 2021 Publication History

Abstract

The method study of systematic literature review in the health area has been investigated further. However, research on the development of language acquisition in children using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) has not been explored, especially at the current researchers. The function of a systematic literature review is identifying, reviewing, evaluating, and interpreting the research. This study aims to investigate the linguistics aspects from prior studies that indicate children's language ability; the characteristics of the data analysis methods influenced the language acquisition results and which theories were most conducted in first language acquisition for children. Fourteen journals were identified as a result of the inclusion criteria. The methodology of this review conducted using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) framework. The results showed that the studies on first language acquisition mostly explained phonology, syntax, semantics, and morphology to measure children's language ability at a certain age. Besides, this systematic review highlighting the method mostly used was observation and diary notes. The most conducted theory from previous studies regarding children's first language acquisition occurred unconsciously and influenced by daily interaction from their surroundings. Overall, current studies of inclusion criteria present a clear concept to measure or to define the stages of children in acquiring their first language. Further study in first language acquisition using systematic review is expected to be a more detailed and relevant analysis either in Indonesia or internationally.
