The Perceptions of Teacher and Student in Senior High School to the Needs of STEM-based E-learning in Physics Learning Process

Published: 25 April 2021 Publication History

Abstract

The development of digital technology brings many changes to life. Feedback on this change is from an educational perspective, namely creating a generation that thinks broadly, thinks creatively, innovatively so that there is no gap with international education. This indicates that to face the era of society 5.0, the development of students collaborated with technological engineering using digital learning is the most important program for education. One of the things that are very close to digital learning systems in e-learning is integrated with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics where the four scopes are contained in the STEM approach. This study aims to determine the perceptions of teachers and students about the need for STEM-based e-learning as innovative learning. The method in this research is quantitative descriptive analysis. Data were collected from two physics teachers and 100 students who were divided into public schools and private schools in Surakarta. The results of this study indicate that there are deficiencies in face-to-face learning and e-learning that have been used such as writing symbols and formulas, unsuitable assessment systems, and teachers are required to make their learning using several methods and approaches. Therefore, almost all respondents agree that the development of STEM-based e-learning is needed by teachers and students to help the physics learning process. As for the results of interviews with school teachers, several things need to be added to the development of STEM-based e-learning, especially in discussion forums, videos, and live chat.
