Design of an Ergonomic Crackers Dryer to Increase Production Productivity at Rahayu Krupuk SME

ABSTRACT

Crackers are popular snack in Indonesia and are often used as a complement to various foods or as side dishes. One of crackers production processes is the drying process. The drying process is carried out mostly using conventional method, in an open area which is dependent on sunlight. This conventional drying have several problems about productivity, including fluctuating heat, posture and cleanliness, and requiring a fairly large drying area. Considering that there are two seasons in Indonesia, dry and rainy seasons, one of the obstacles in crackers production is the drying process during rainy season as the heat needed in the drying process will not be continuously available because of the rain. The development of technology demands an innovation to create crackers dryer invention instead of using conventional drying. The aim of this paper is build “Smart Fuse Water Dryer” tool has the potential to increase the productivity of crackers in SMEs, especially in SME Rahayu Kerupuk. Smart Fuse Water Dryer using microcontroller to increase productivity. This microcontroller is used as a controller in the drying process, which is to control the temperature and length of the drying process, electronically and automatically. This will make it easier to dry crackers without having to wait for sunny weather. From the existing drying process problems, we propose a tool that can provide faster drying process without relying on the heat of sunlight, more efficient in energy use, greater capacity, more ergonomic, more protections as users are not exposed to direct sunlight, and not easily causing fatigue. The creation of crackers dryer using heating elements and an automatic system equipped with a microcontroller as the brain of a tool "SMART FUSE WATER DRYER" is certainly very likely able to have a positive impact on SMEs that use this tool.
