Analysis on the creation of accessible documents with Microsoft Word online in the field of education

Published: 22 September 2021 Publication History

Abstract

This study aims to assess how the Microsoft Word online authoring tool helps teachers create accessible digital documents. A remote test is carried out on 24 teachers from the same public secondary school in the town of Reus. Teachers are told to make a document that contains relevant elements in terms of accessibility. Afterwards, they are told to apply the tool "Accessibility Checker" to the aforementioned document to see if it provides help in improving the accessibility of the document. The results show (1) that the resulting documents made by teachers are not accessible and (2) that the "Accessibility Checker" tool does not help to make the final documents more accessible.
