Designing an App for Nursing Homes to clinical users

Published:26 October 2021Publication History

ABSTRACT

People generally live longer but spend more years of their lives with disabilities. Nursing homes have been taking a crucial role in taking care of elderlies, which results in the acquisition/storage of a lot of health information. Despite the increasing adoption of electronic health records for healthcare delivery, some health facilities may require health software adapted to their specific needs. In order to create value-adding and user-friendly software, development should consider both a user-centered and business-centered design. To proceed with design, requirements specification (e.g. the content to display, or the data to store) is a critical step, and must take into account the stakeholders. The objective of this study is to formulate software requirements for a new application developed for nursing homes, having physicians, nurses, and healthcare assistants as user-targets. To assess their needs, interviews were performed. Then, functional and non-functional requirements documentation was proceeded, through natural and graphical language, and prototype. While the design process can be effortful and lengthy, it is elementary to ultimately satisfy the stakeholders.
