Portable Interactive Meditation Mirror: A Novel Approach to Mindfulness Practice through Art and Technology

Published: 20 February 2022 Publication History

Abstract

With its unique portable and movable design, the “Portable Interactive & Meditation Mirror” (PIMM) creates a novel experience of mindfulness practice through digital art and interactive technology. PIMM has an interactive, face-detection algorithm and AI features targeting primary school students, minority groups, and the elderly. This PIMM aims to provide an interactive platform to students on how to courageously confront and relieve stress and face challenges in life. This design approach can be regarded as an experimental and participatory mediation learning platform that assists users in improving their focus and relaxation so as to soothe their minds and care for their inner selves. In future, PIMM may also be used to assist in the execution of a course of training or exercises by recording in detail the participants’ emotions for data evaluation. Participants can track their own emotional changes throughout the treatment, which helps them better understand and adjust their mood. Additionally, they can predict the deterioration of their emotions in advance, allowing them to seek assistance from professional bodies, teachers, or friends in a timely manner.
