Preparation of polyacrylamide with high relative molecular weight based on miniemulsion polymerization

Published: 14 March 2022 Publication History

Abstract

Polyacrylamide (PAM) and its derivatives are multifunctional water-soluble polymers, which can be divided into three types: nonionic, cationic and anionic. Polyacrylamide (PAM) with high molecular weight was synthesized by microemulsion method. Polyacrylamide was used as monomer, and a self-made initiator was used for polymerization under the condition of coexistence with sodium carbonate. The optimal polymerization parameters of PAM are determined: pH value of solution was 12. 3. The content of emulsifier is 3.4%, the rotational speed is 10 000 r/min, the emulsifying time is 25 min, and the hydrophilic-hydrophobic balance value (HLB value) is 5.6 when the monomer concentration is 45%. Under the optimum synthesis conditions, PAM has the highest intrinsic viscosity and good flocculation effect on polymer-containing sewage.
