Corpus Construction for TCM Clinical Symptom Based on Information Coding Standard

Published: 22 December 2021 Publication History

Abstract

In response to the current situation that there is no standard for the terminology of clinical symptoms in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and research mostly remains at the conceptual level, a corpus of clinical symptoms in TCM based on information coding standards is proposed. This information coding standard adopts the group standard issued by China Information Association for Traditional Chinese Medicine and Pharmacy, which contains the main symptoms, tongue signs and pulse signs. The main symptoms contain backbone symptoms, acquisition methods and attributes to give knowledge properties to the symptom terms. The multidimensional knowledge attributes contained in the standard are used to annotate the Terms of Traditional Chinese Medicine and construct a corpus of TCM clinical symptoms. This corpus can be used for the automatic extraction of clinical symptom information in TCM electronic medical records. Not only does it standardise the clinical symptom terminology, but because it has knowledge attributes, it facilitates the in-depth use of symptom information and provides a good basis for exploring the links between symptoms, diseases and prescriptions.
