Has E-government Facilitated the Social-economic Sustainable Development? Empirical Evidence from Global Panel Data

Abstract
Since the United Nations (UN) adopted the 2030 agenda in 2015, 17 SDGs and 169 specific goals have been acclaimed for their potential global economic, social and environmental influences. The achievement of social-economic development calls for national and governmental systematic support along with international partnerships, which are considered to be aided by the development of ICTs. E-government, as a tool and platform for providing efficient public administration, convenient online services, and social-government interactions, is considered by much of the literature that would both directly and indirectly impose effects on social-economic sustainable development. However, previous literature are mainly focused on the governance efficiency, but shed little light on the macro-level effects of E-government. This study aims to conduct an empirical study based on a global panel data to explore whether e-government development could empower the SDGs performance or not, especially in the social-economic aspects. Differences in the impact of countries with different income levels are also discussed.
