ABSTRACT
Entrepreneurship and innovation education (EIE) has gained significant importance in ICT education, driven by the necessity to equip students with the skills to navigate a rapidly evolving technological landscape and a dynamic job market. However, the methods of supporting ICT entrepreneurial activities can vary based on students’ experiences and geographical proximity. In order to assist educators in higher education institutions in effectively supporting EIE in the ICT domain, this paper presents a comprehensive case study examining the current state and trends of ICT EIE in Australian universities, with a specific focus on the student experience at Deakin University in Australia. Through a combination of a scoping review, faculty members’ self-reflections, surveys and interviews conducted with students, this study highlights the key challenges and opportunities in adapting ICT EIE, taking into account student motivations, evolving workforce requirements, and effective pedagogical and assessment practices. The findings of this study indicate that Australian universities are actively working towards adapting their ICT EIE programs to meet the demands of a changing world. However, they face challenges related to aligning industry and academia, developing customizable curricula for students from both urban and regional backgrounds, and addressing the need for trainers with substantial entrepreneurial experience.
