Published: 13 October 2023 Publication History

Abstract

College English courses, as a compulsory language course for all the non-English Major students in the first and second year in all colleges and universities in China, has also been faced with the trend of change and incorporated flipped classroom as a popular mode especially in the era of epidemic. However, while bringing more freedom and autonomy to students, flipped classroom also poses a much bigger challenge in student autonomy. Based on questionnaires of three dimensions including cognitive autonomy, emotional autonomy and behavioral autonomy, the research surveyed two classes in their second year in a university in Shanghai who have taken the college English courses in flipped classroom for a semester. Finally a quantitative analysis is made about the status quo of student autonomy in blended College English Courses in order to find the problems and ways to promote student autonomy.
