ABSTRACT
Virtual laboratories and software are helpful for students to carry out virtual experiments for measuring intended parameters and therefore to comprehend the topic. In these regards, this paper presents achieved results of a research intended for improving students’ achievements in Electrical Machines courses through IT-based Laboratory Assignments. To carry out the research, STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics)-based experimental setups was developed considering digital tools useful for building experimental setups in a virtual environment. In fact, course curriculum was enriched by introducing Multisim-based virtual experiments so that students can build intended electrical circuits and measure physical indicators of electrical machines such as slip coefficient, rotational frequency, power factor, efficiency and other output parameters. To evaluate the efficiency or effect of these IT-based interactive laboratory assignments on students’ course comprehension level, the experimental hours of Electrical Machines course were carried out using the developed materials for two academic semesters. As a result, positive results were achieved and students’ scientific, mathematical, technological and engineering skills were improved.
