Simulation of an intelligent traffic management model

Published: 13 November 2023 Publication History

Abstract

Due to rapid urbanization, the world has experienced an increase in transport demand, resulting in several challenges, such as congestion and road accidents. Intersections and traffic lights are particular risk areas, as evidenced by the high number of accidents in urban areas in Morocco (14,998 accidents, 174 of which were fatal). This also leads to many hours of delay. To manage these critical challenges, it is recommended to use information and communication technologies (ICTs). This document presents a traffic light management model that prioritizes emergency vehicles such as ambulances and priority vehicles (such as buses) to ensure safer and smoother traffic flow. The efficacy of this model was tested using the Anylogic simulator, which integrates three simulation methods (multi-agent, dynamic systems, and discrete event modeling) and allows the use of Java code in the simulation.
