The Motion and RCS Characteristic Analysis of an ICBM Based on Simulation

Published:17 August 2023Publication History

ABSTRACT

It was very important to acquire the characteristics of ballistic missiles both for the offense and defense parts. For the defense part, the invading missiles’ characteristics could be used to classify and identify the targets in the Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) operation. This paper computed and analyzed the motion and RCS (Radar Cross Section) characteristics of a typical three-stage Inter-Continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) based on digital simulation. Firstly, the motion characteristics were simulated based on the missile's technical parameters and trajectory equations, the results of which were demonstrated by twenty three motion parameters. Secondly, based on CST STUDIO SUITE and the missile's geometric parameters, the RCS of the missile during different flight phases was simulated and analyzed. The results of this paper could provide some references for engineers in BMD.
