ABSTRACT
A new, simple, inexpensive IMU system for measuring shod foot movement was developed. The system consisted of six 9-axis IMU wirelings and six control packages. Each wireling was connected to the control package through a cable. Foot switches were used to detect heel strike and toe off. Three dimensional joint motions of the 1st metatarsus relative to phalanx (Met-Ph), and mid-foot relative to 1st metatarsus (Mid-Met) were tracked. One normal subject with no foot deformities walked in the corridor at self-selected pace first barefoot, then with nurse footwear. The system showed good consistency within walks. Between walks consistency showed variations consistent with human gait analysis. Joint range of motion for Met-Ph and Mid-Met were decreased in shod walking except that dorsiflexion of Met-Ph increased.

Analyzing Walking with Ankle Foot Orthoses Using Shank-mounted Wearable Movement Sensors
ASSETS '23: Proceedings of the 25th International ACM SIGACCESS Conference on Computers and AccessibilityAn Ankle Foot Orthosis (AFO) is a device that supports the ankle joint to help improve gait. When fitting AFOs, clinicians tune the AFO, and the success of the tuning is often determined by observation, e.g. of a patient walking up and down a corridor. ...
A simulation-based framework with a proprioceptive musculoskeletal model for evaluating the rehabilitation exoskeleton system
Highlights- A simulation-based method with a proprioceptive musculoskeletal model was established to evaluate the rehabilitation exoskeleton.
Abstract Background and objectiveVarious rehabilitation exoskeletons have been designed to help people regain normal gait from stroke effects. However, the evaluation and further optimization of these exoskeletons are not convenient ...
A proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation integrated robotic ankle-foot system for post stroke rehabilitation
Ankle joint with spasticity and/or contracture can severely disable the mobility and the independence of stroke survivors. In this paper, we developed a proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) integrated robotic ankle-foot system for post stroke ...
