Exploring cultural data from UNESCO using semantic technologies

Published: 06 January 2024 Publication History

Abstract

“The Sustainable Development Goals are a call for action by all countries to promote prosperity while protecting the planet. The goal 11 is about making the cities inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable”. The target 11.4 refers to “strengthen efforts to protect and safeguard the world’s cultural and natural heritage”. The purpose of the workshop is to explore cultural data from the Institute for Statistics of UNESCO using semantic technologies. Firstly, the Resource Description Framework (RDF) will be introduce by means of examples. Then, the participants will be able to download the original data as well as new transformed data to be explored by predefined queries by using a SPARQL end point. Finally, we will focus on basic concepts to motivate participants to write and test their own queries.
