Development of facility maintenance inspection system based on augmented reality

Published: 26 December 2023 Publication History

Abstract

Although periodic inspections are being carried out on social facilities such as bridges and highways in Korea, visual inspections by inspectors have problems of cost and inefficiency. In this study, an AR glass-based facility inspection system was developed. This system acquires information about a specific facility as an IFC file and converts it into a 3D asset with augmented reality technology applied on the Unity platform, enabling the facility to be inspected on mobile devices and AR glasses. The system can obtain a visual effect by utilizing the AR glass and obtain detailed information of the selected object. In addition, when a damaged facility is discovered, damage information can be stored and managed through interactive communication between the AR glass and the server. Currently, a pilot system has been implemented, and the accuracy of interaction with the virtual object selected on the AR glass has been tested.
