Evil is not the Metal

Abstract

This manuscript deals with the interactive sculpture “Vil não é o metal” (the Evil Is Not The Metal) in terms of its conception, technology, poetics and intended impact. It is an interactive sound and light installation-sculpture that explores, in the context of the Anthropocene, the predatory relationship of human-technological beings with the Earth's ecosystem, especially the Brazilian one, whose destruction has caused great and serious damage to rivers, forests, animal species, including human beings. This artwork seeks to bring this issue to light through a sound, light and interactive sculpture which is expressed through non-linear sound and light narratives. The sound and light animations of the piece, when left untouched, evoke forest environment vibes. However, when the golden threads around the sculpture are touched, a scenario of direct and indirect human-technological predation on the forest and its creatures transforms the setting of the piece, which begins to express destruction and pain.
