The Significance and Impact of Digital Transformation on Tobacco Supply Chain Procurement in China: An Empirical Study

Published: 11 June 2024 Publication History

Abstract

With the development of digital technologies, digital transformation has become an inevitable trend for enterprises across various industries. For China's tobacco industry, upgrading supply chain management through digital means is imperative to enhance operational efficiency and service quality. This paper aims to study the impact of digital transformation on tobacco supply chain management through a case study of Yuxi Zhongyan Tobacco Company's procurement department. Quantitative analysis is conducted on the collected data to compare the performance before and after digital transformation implementation. The research explores the effects of digital technologies on transforming traditional tobacco procurement patterns and processes. It also provides practical guidance for accelerating digital upgrading in China's tobacco industry. The results showcase that digital transformation can significantly improve supply chain visibility, flexibility, integration and analytics capabilities, thus reducing costs, shortening procurement cycles and enhancing market responsiveness for tobacco companies. However, potential challenges such as information silos and integration barriers should also be addressed. Overall, embracing digital transformation is essential for China's tobacco supply chains to achieve more agile, intelligent and high-quality development. This will exert profound influence on the tobacco industrial ecosystem and broader social economy.
