GPS constellation power monitoring based on tracking receiving antenna

Published: 14 June 2024 Publication History

Abstract

Traditional ground Global Positioning System (GPS) constellation power monitoring stations use ground-fixed receiving antennas to monitor the Effective Isotropic Radiated Power (EIRP) of GPS satellites, but in practice, the problem of insufficient monitoring accuracy of EIRP arises due to inaccurate measurement of receiving antenna radiation pattern. Therefore, this paper proposes an improved method based on a tracking receiving antenna to monitor the EIRP of GPS satellites, which ensures that the receiving gain is at the peak of the main lobe by adjusting the direction of the receiving antenna, and designs a receiving strategy for monitoring the GPS constellation with the receiving antenna. The experimental results show that, under the condition of using a single receiving antenna to monitor the entire GPS constellation, the GPS constellation power monitoring accuracy based on the tracking receiving antenna proposed in this paper is improved by 0.10dB compared with the traditional method.
