ABSTRACT
This study took the English back vowels of Tibetan college students in Maqu County, Gansu Province as the object, and extracted F1, F2, and duration of English back vowels of GB and Tibetan college students based on information technology. Through comparative analysis, the research results indicated that their acquisition of English back vowels was not optimistic. [u:] and [ʊ] of them were confused with each other, regardless of gender. Compared with GB, Tibetan male participants’[ɔ:] was much more forward, and Tibetan female participants’[ɔ:] was too low and too forward; Tibetan male participants’[ɒ] was much more forward, and Tibetan female participants’[ɒ] was slightly lower and more forward. Tibetan male participants’ [ɑ:] was much more forward, and Tibetan female participants’ [ɑ:] was slightly lower and more forward. In the vowel diagram, the distribution of English back vowels in Maqu Tibetan college students was very different from that in GB, which also indicated that there were many problems in their acquisition of English back vowels.
