The Impacts of Digitalization on Firms’ High Quality Development

Published: 24 July 2024 Publication History

Abstract

Digital economy empowers enterprises with new development momentum, can it create economic benefits for enterprises?Taking Chinese listed companies as a sample, we collected and organized the annual reports by Python, and extracted the text content from them using Java PDFBox to form a data pool. Then, we searched, matched and counted word frequencies of the annual report texts by Python, and constructed indicators of digitization based on relevant keywords. Finally, the econometric model was used to study the economic benefits of digitization from the perspective of firms' total factor productivity(TFP). The study finds that digitization significantly promotes firms' TFP and empowers Chinese firms' high quality development (HQD). And the results remain robust after performing robustness tests and solving endogenous issues through methods such as the SYS—GMM and 2SLS model, providing valuable insights for the Chinese government to optimize digital economy policies.
