Research and Application of WAPI Technology Based on Power Systems

Published: 31 July 2024 Publication History

Abstract

With the rapid advancement of smart grid construction and digital transformation, existing communication methods are unable to meet the increasing application demand for wireless local area networks in substations, and there are potential security issues in daily operation. WAPI technology has flexible networking, good compatibility, and high security. Therefore, it can be considered for application in the operation of wireless networks in substations. WAPI consists of the Wireless LAN Authentication Infrastructure (WAI) and the Wireless LAN Privacy Infrastructure (WPI). It can replace traditional WIFI communication technology while meeting the requirements of security, compliance, and autonomy. The application of WAPI in substations has bridged the barriers between perception layer devices and platform layer main station systems, providing a secure and ubiquitous communication platform for various high mobility, large bandwidth, and low latency services in substations in the future. It also provides successful cases for the construction and renovation of similar intelligent substations in power enterprises.
