Abstract
The purpose of this article is to discuss three challenges that face the IS academic community. Specifically, these challenges are:• Keeping up• Remote learning• Electronic publishingThese three challenges were selected because they are little discussed in our field, yet they are interrelated and they affect most of the readers of DATA BASE. Of course, they are not the only challenges the IS field faces. However, others such as, for example, electronic commerce are well discussed elsewhere. In this article, we first examine each of the three challenges and discuss how they affect the IS academic profession and IS practice. We then discuss what IS professionals can do to meet them and what they will gain as a field by resolving them.
