Abstract

Welcome to the Second ACM International Workshop on Mobile Commerce, held in conjunction with the Eighth Annual International Conference on Mobile Computing and Networking (MobiCom 2002). The workshop provides a forum for researchers and technologists in the field to discuss all aspects of mobile commerce. Its goal is to connect the electronic commerce and the pervasive computing communities, to foster interaction among the participants, and to promote cross-fertilization of ideas. Our call for papers attracted 26 paper submissions from 11 countries. These papers addressed a wide range of topics in mobile commerce, describing vision and issues, exploratory research, as well as industrial efforts and experiences. An outstanding collection of 9 submissions was accepted as full papers, and 6 other strong submissions were accepted as short papers. The resulting program offers an excellent reflection of the field, with sessions covering service discovery and advertising, location- and context-awareness, management of data and content, and commerce and business applications. Each session consists of presentations of the corresponding papers and a discussion forum for clarifying and comparing the papers.
